What are Permalinks?
If you have noticed, there is options in Events, Pages, Posts, Categories, etc for permalinks. In short, it stands for Permanent Link.
Why is this important?
If you have a long page/event/post title, you may wish to shorten it to something more friendly. Also long links get broken in emails. You want people to be able to easily tell their friends.
It should be noted that if you choose a Parent in Page Attributes when Adding or Editing a Page, the page will always be nested (behind) that Parent page. Another reason to keep things short. Such as “..Newsletters/December-2011 /”
Now, some may ask – Why is a Permalink adding a Number to the end? This happens when you have duplicate pages, categories, or events. Even if you deleted the page, it still exists in the Recycling Can so to speak. You have to empty the trash to fully remove. Then you vcan go back into the page and edit your permalink
It is suggested to not edit these too often, as your Search rankings could be effected.
